Swanage Carnival celebrates another successful year giving away more than £28,000 to 23 chosen organisations.

Despite a balmy summer, the volunteers of the Swanage Carnival Committee had to battle the elements on Carnival Sunday as gale force winds and rain lashed the south coast.  With many local events cancelled including, Bestival, Carnival managed to continue with the floats, carnival bands and crowds of supporters gathering in spite of the terrible weather.  As the procession set off 3pm the skies slowly cleared and the wind abated, completing an amazing opening weekend for Carnival 2018.

Carnival chairperson 2018 Maria Foot said “Carnival week 2018 was a fantastic week.  This was my first year as Chairperson and I am so proud of what the Committee and Friends of Carnival have achieved.

With a few changes to our layout, some new events and introduction of reusable cups we worked hard to try and improve our event for this year.  We were particularly pleased with how well our reusable cups were received and the huge reduction of litter on our show ground.  Our thanks go to Goadsby Estate Agents for sponsoring the cups.”

Our presentation night at The Purbeck House Hotel was well attended by representatives from our chosen charities and good causes.  We were also delighted to welcome our Mayor, Mike Bonfield, who presented some of the donations to our chosen organisations.   The Mayor said a few words to close the evening, thanking the Carnival Committee for their hard work and reflected on the great amount raised for the chosen causes, as well as the “millions Carnival brings to the town”.

Planning for 2019 is already well underway and we have chosen our theme which is Swanage goes ‘Musical’!.  If you are interested in getting involved with Swanage Carnival please contact Maria on [email protected]
