Our Charities

Our Chosen Charities

After receiving a huge number of applicants, we are delighted to share our chosen charities and local good causes that we will be donating to in 2023! Every year members of the these groups do their bit to contribute towards the success of Swanage Carnival, by helping behind the bar or shaking a bucket – there’s so many ways to support the South’s Premier Carnival and we couldn’t do it without them!

How To Donate

Our bucketeers will be out and about all week during events so don’t forget to bring along those coins you’ve been saving all year for Swanage Carnival. If you’ve gone cashless, there’s still plenty of ways in which you can donate! Scan the QR code on the collection buckets or on Carnival signage around the Showground.

Memory Box Project in Poole Hospital Critical Care Unit

The Memory Box Project  has been set up by three nurses to provide Memory Boxes for children bereaved of a parent or a sibling on the critical care unit. They work with and support the children providing them with an opportunity to ask questions and be involved in collecting handprints, locks of hair, and other personal items. Each box is individualised according to each child’s need and includes story books on bereavement and a pair of matching teddies. One teddy stays with the child the other stays with the person that has passed away. The project relies solely on donations.

Swanage Area Dementia Friendly Community

The organisation was set up to raise awareness and understanding of dementia in the Swanage Area. It is part of an alliance including Dorset County Council and Complete Community Care (Solent) Ltd.

Its aims are to:

  • Share best practice and understanding;
  • Create a safe and non stigmatising community where people with dementia can live well;
  • Create an environment where the carer and person with dementia can seek appropriate help and support;
  • Raise funds for an Admiral Nurse within the Purbeck Area.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is one of Swanage Carnival’s annual charities.  The charity was established to provide relief from sickness and injury for the people of Dorset and Somerset, by the provision of an air ambulance. The charity receives no direct funding from the Government or the National Lottery and relies on the generosity of the public and organisation such as Swanage Carnival for support. With operational costs of over £3.5 million a year and the approximate cost per mission of £3,000, our annual support helps maintain a vital service in our community.

Raising thousands of pounds each year for our chosen charities and good causes

In 2023 Swanage Carnival celebrated another successful year, giving away a staggering £27,650 to 20 selected organisations. The donations were awarded at our annual presentation night and we have been delighted to learn how these hard raised funds have been put to great use in our community.
